To paint an entire set of cabinets this way would result in dramatically higher costs compared to sprayed on latex paint.
However canned spray paint is only a viable choice for covering a cabinet or two as one can of spray paint covers just 20 square feet.
You may need two or three coats of paint to cover your metal filing cabinet but this is better than spraying too much material onto the surface in one application.
Priming the cabinet will create a surface the paint can stick to and should prevent future rust.
Here s what mine looked like after the primer.
Make sure you spray in light even coats and purchase enough paint for the job.
Don t feel like you need to get complete coverage it s just the base layer.
So here s the fun part.
You ll also need some large cardboard sheets paint canvas or other protective covering for the garage floor or ground.
Metal paint primer can be found at most home improvement stores without too much difficulty.
Small foam roller paintbrush.
Two cans spray paint.
Decorative items for the file cabinet i e fabric magnets photos etc.
And by mini makeover i mean two 2 bottles of spray paint.
Use a spray primer if you can find it as spray painting the cabinet will be easier than using a brush.
Step 5 allow the primer to dry according to the package directions.
To make the file cabinet feel truly at home it needed a mini makeover.
Painting metal file cabinets old metal lockers or other metal pieces can be done with acrylic paints spray paints or chalk paints.
As with the primer opt for a spray paint formulated for use on metal since these will help prevent rust.
Apply one layer of primer to the file cabinet.
